Maktab Learning Platform.Modern Islamic Learning with AI

Maktab brings structured Islamic learning to the web with an AI assistant that answers questions in context. Built with Python and Flask, it pairs a curated curriculum with conversational help — students move through lessons at their own pace, and whenever something is unclear they can ask the assistant, which answers strictly within the bounds of the source material rather than improvising.

Grounding the AI was the hardest part. General-purpose language models are confident even when wrong, which is unacceptable for religious education. Maktab constrains every response with retrieval over a vetted corpus, cites the passage it drew from, and falls back to "ask your teacher" when confidence drops below a threshold. Accuracy was reviewed lesson by lesson with educators before anything shipped.

The design goal was calm focus. No gamification, no streaks, no notification pressure — just generous typography, wide margins, and a reading rhythm that respects the material. The interface disappears so the text can lead, and session lengths in testing ran nearly double the industry average for education platforms.
