HotWays Travel Companion.Explore the World in Real Time

HotWays turns trip planning into an immersive experience. Built with Vue, Nuxt, and Three.js, it renders live travel data on an interactive 3D globe — routes, destinations, and conditions at a glance. Instead of scrolling through endless lists and tabs, travelers spin the planet, drop a pin, and instantly see everything relevant to that place: flight paths, weather overlays, and points of interest, all layered on a single canvas.

The core challenge was performance. A WebGL scene with thousands of animated markers can bring a browser to its knees, and streaming real-time updates on top of that makes it worse. The solution combined aggressive scene management — frustum culling, instanced meshes, level-of-detail switching — with lazy data hydration, so only the region in view ever holds live data in memory. The result stays fluid at 60fps even on mid-range laptops and tablets.

Beyond the technical work, HotWays was an exercise in restraint. Travel apps tend to drown users in options; here every interaction was reduced to its simplest form. One globe, one search bar, one timeline. The interface fades away until it is needed, letting the map itself become the product — and testers consistently described the experience with the same word: calm.
